Introducing Illustrator Snalo Ngcaba

Graphic designer and self-taught illustrator Snalo Ngcaba is making a name for herself in Johannesburg with her socially conscious illustrations that celebrate black joy and tackle human rights issues like gender-based violence. Her distinct graphic style features bold lines, patterns and bright colours. Using popular culture motifs and text slogans, Snalo says, “I'm very intentional in my illustrations, especially with my protest art.” She is inspired by seeing other black artists flourish and having a positive impact in the world. Snalo broke into the industry by promoting her work on social media. In 2017 she participated in a mural project for FEM, an organisation promoting safe abortions in low income communities. She recently worked on a COVID-19 safety mural for the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and is collaborating with Creative Nestlings on an anti-gender-based violence t-shirt and sticker campaign. Recent brand clients include Aperol Spritz, Comedy Central, Constitution Hill, AfroNation, Afropunk and her work has been featured on Between 10and5, Design Indaba and Creative Nestlings.
